Operation Save Animals

Protecting every animal

Operation Save Animals seeks the welfare of all domestic and captive animals as well as performing animals. Our objective is to avoid suffering and ensure welfare for all Animals.  In addition the training and exhibition of performing animals must be regulated by authorities everywhere to ensure safe treatment for all performing animals. Such regulation should require trainers and exhibitors of such animals to be registered with the local authority. Under any regulations, the police and officers of local authorities, should have power to enter premises where animals are being trained and exhibited, and if cruelty and neglect is detected, legal proceedings should prohibit or restrict the training or exhibition of the animals and suspend or cancel the registration granted the trainers or exhibitors, and rescue the animals.

This concern and care also includes pets. Authorities must protect the welfare of animals sold as pets. This requires any person keeping a pet shop to be licensed by the local authority. Before granting a licence the local authority must be satisfied that the animals are kept in accommodation that is both suitable and clean; that they are supplied with appropriate food and drink; and are adequately protected from disease and fire. The local authority may attach any conditions to the licence, may inspect the licensed premises at all reasonable times and may refuse a licence if the conditions at the premises are unsatisfactory or if the terms of the licence are not being complied with. If mistreatment is evident, legal action must be instituted against violators as quickly as possible.

Local authorities in all countries must be responsible for enforcing the law in this area and anyone who has reason to believe that a pet shop is keeping animals in inadequate conditions should raise the matter with the local authority who will decide what action to take within the range of its powers. Operation Save Animals is a global effort designed to raise awareness about the plight of all animals - be it domestic, wild, or captive. We will use all available resources at our disposal to advocate on behalf of animals. Our initiatives shall include advertising; radio and television messages in various languages; billboards and signs; emails; international concerts; education, and other national and international campaigns to protect animals. We ask that you join us in this fight to protect animals.
